The Classic of Tea Books Design

The Classic of Tea

The Classic of Tea is a book design based on the earliest known written record of tea. The book and its packaging are made entirely of beech wood. The central title is carved in red copper. Each page is a wooden panel that can be removed and viewed separately. The lid opens from the middle towards both sides, so the complete book can be lifted out. The pages are produced with a laser engraving machine and paint. The choice of materials refers to ancient Chinese culture, which was recorded on bamboo, wood and bronze, the same materials linked to early tea culture.

The Classic of Tea Books Design by Junheng Li was selected as a creative illustration of communication design by the A' Design Award. The Classic of Tea Books Design won the Bronze A' Design Award in Print and Published Media Design in 2020. The A' Print and Published Media Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design competition that recognizes superior design of brochures, posters, magazines, catalogs, flyers, business cards, billboards, books and more.
