Vicereines of Ireland
Vicereines of Ireland is an academic book about a group of overlooked women in Irish history. The design captures the rich material world of these women and also reflects the humanity of their actions. The colour palette was taken from blush pink paints that survive on the paint palette of one of the women. The end papers were inspired by an old Italian marbled notebook and were made with a traditional spot marbling technique that was then digitally adapted. A gold foil frame is blocked on the hardcover behind the cover image, so the woman shown comes forward.
Vicereines of Ireland Academic Book by Jurga Rakauskaite-Larkin has been featured as an exceptional illustration of communication design by the A' Design Awards. Vicereines of Ireland Academic Book won the Iron A' Design Award in Print and Published Media Design in 2022. The A' Print and Published Media Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design recognition program which celebrates excellent design of brochures, posters, magazines, catalogs, flyers, business cards, billboards, books and more.
