X World

X World is a conceptual garment inspired by X-ray photographs of insects. The design translates an insect exoskeleton into wearable form, placing layers of shell-like structures on the human body. X World is made with the palace lantern craft of China, a technique listed as intangible cultural heritage. After many material tests, a frame of iron wire was combined with silk gauze, a pairing that is both light and flexible. The garment is delicate yet strong, and presents vulnerability as a temporary form of protection.

X World Clothing by 梅 潘 was recognized as an exceptional illustration of fashion design by the A' Design Award & Competition. X World Clothing received the Golden A' Design Award in Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design in 2022. The A' Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design recognition program which rewards excellent design of runway collections, dresses, suits, skirts, outerwear, jackets, apparel, garments and more.
