The Intelligent Eggshell

The Intelligent Eggshell Lamp is a porcelain nightlight that combines hand-made eggshell porcelain with voice control. The shade is formed through more than forty working procedures, repeated fettling and carving, and three firings, giving a wall thickness within 1 mm. Carved points, lines and surfaces glow like a night sky when the lamp is lit. The tapered housing is curved to sit in the hand and resists tipping. The light is switched on and off by voice, so the hands stay free. The design aims to revive a traditional folk craft.

The Intelligent Eggshell Porcelain Nightlight by Chunlong Xiang has been highlighted as an exceptional representation of industrial design by the A' Design Award & Competition.
