The Name of Sewing
The Name of Sewing is a residential apartment interior design of 80 square meters in New Taipei City, Taiwan. The concept was drawn from the homeowner's memories of her father, a cobbler who made boots for her 45 years ago that are still kept in a display cabinet. The homeowner later became a fashion designer, so sewing links father and daughter. Cement surfaces of low chroma highlight the collected objects, while titanium plated panels, a stainless steel frame and glass bricks form the television wall. A trumpet shaped chandelier recalls the father's music.
The Name of Sewing Residential Apartment by Syuan-Ta Chiu was selected as a grand representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award. The Name of Sewing Residential Apartment was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2020. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design accolade which recognizes outstanding design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
