The Next 40 Years
The Next 40 Years is an office interior created inside a renovated building in Taichung, Taiwan. The design preserves the existing vegetation of the site and the original building frame. Materials are used efficiently to reduce waste. Granite from the site was recycled for the outdoor pavement, and recycled tiles form a stair platform. Local Taiwan incense cedar was applied as indoor decoration. Old enclosing walls were removed and replaced with grilles, opening the courtyard and the layered planting to the neighborhood.
The Next 40 Years Office by Szu-Hsin Cheng has been identified as a grand example of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. The Next 40 Years Office won the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2020. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design competition that honors excellent design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
