The Attic
The Attic is a residential interior design for a family home in Taipei, Taiwan. The home occupies an attic space six meters high. The living room, dining room and kitchen are placed in one open area without dividing walls, so daylight crosses the whole floor and family members can talk freely between the rooms. Iron, cement and wood are combined with white walls to balance the raw industrial character. The television is set on a swivel mount and can face the sofa, the dining room or the kitchen. Marble, quartz brick and light wood flooring define each area.
The Attic Residential House by Yang Zi Ying was recognized as a creative example of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. The Attic Residential House earned the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2020. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design prize which celebrates outstanding design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
