Ascending Ground
Set within the historic town of Wuzhen, Ascending Ground explores a dialogue between permanence and openness through a contemporary community library. Recycled grey brick volumes anchor the building in local tradition, while terraces, platforms, and carved openings generate fluid movement and framed views. A central light filled void introduces nature and social activity, transforming the library into a layered spatial landscape that connects architecture, daylight, and urban memory.
Ascending Ground Community Library by Hao Zhong has been selected as an outstanding representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award. Ascending Ground Community Library was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2026. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is a juried, academic and highly prestigious design competition which celebrates outstanding design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
