Rising 1
Rising 1 is a two-story wooden house built in Tottori, Japan. The exterior is unified by single-color tiles, which give the building a simple and calm presence. Few windows face the outside, so a high level of privacy is kept. The rooms are arranged in a continuous loop around a central courtyard. From the living, dining and kitchen area, all rooms can be seen across the courtyard. A double-height space and high windows bring soft daylight into the interior. The land area is 305 square meters and the building area is 145 square meters.
Rising 1 House by Yusuke Tanaka was featured as a grand illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award. Rising 1 House received the Iron A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2026. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design competition that rewards outstanding design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
