Red Brick
Red Brick is a hotel interior at Qinglong Mountain, created through the adaptive reuse of an old wharf. Reclaimed red clay bricks form a light permeable screen instead of a solid wall. The bricks are perforated and held by a concealed stainless steel system, so no wet mortar is used on the facade. Daylight passes through the small openings and casts changing patterns on the interior surfaces. The dry assembly protects the fragile bricks, reduces water use and allows later disassembly. The project reuses heritage material as an active building element.
Red Brick Hotel by GONG XU has been highlighted as an innovative representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Red Brick Hotel earned the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2026. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is a highly prestigious international design recognition program that honors superior design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
