Ryo Armchair

Ryo

Ryo is an armchair shaped as a single continuous form. The undulations run from the seat to the back and create an uninterrupted loop. The design started from the question of whether a common piece of furniture could take a freer form. The complex three-dimensional surface was difficult to produce and was achieved by using stretch fabric. The armchair measures 725 millimetres in width, 730 millimetres in depth and 800 millimetres in height. The curved shell envelops the person who sits on it and adds a sculptural element to the space.

Ryo Armchair by Yuto Yamada has been selected as an exceptional illustration of industrial design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Ryo Armchair received the Bronze A' Design Award in Furniture Design in 2026. The A' Furniture Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design accolade that honors superior design of chairs, tables, sofas, beds, cabinets, shelves, desks, wardrobes and more.
