Plexus
Plexus is a modular joinery system created with generative design and adaptable connectors. The system joins parts without traditional fasteners, allowing smooth transitions between surfaces and structures. Components are produced by lost-wax casting from wax patterns made with 3D printing. An algorithmic mesh reinforces stress points and reduces the amount of metal used. Low-impact anodizing and non-toxic plating improve durability and surface quality. Plexus supports assembly and reconfiguration across many applications.
Plexus Joinery by Subinay Malhotra has been highlighted as an outstanding illustration of strategy design by the A' Design Awards. Plexus Joinery won the Iron A' Design Award in Generative, Algorithmic, Parametric and AI-Assisted Design in 2025. The A' Generative, Algorithmic, Parametric and AI-Assisted Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design competition which rewards excellent design of algorithmic artworks, parametric architectures, generative graphics, AI-Assisted illustrations, computational sculptures, procedural patterns, evolutionary installations, interactive experiences and more.
