Blue Tandoor
Blue Tandoor is a restaurant interior located in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, covering about 3,500 square feet. Curved ceiling waves recall the dome of the Taj Mahal and give the space a formal character. Geometric arches, lattice work and textured walls refer to South Asian and Middle Eastern styles. Woven wicker lamps, hardwood surfaces and brass accents add warmth. Deep blue tones recall the calm of moonlight. Computer-aided design was used to plan the arch patterns and the spatial layout. The interior blends traditional references with modern dining comfort.
Blue Tandoor Restaurant by Jackson Y. K. Chia was featured as a grand illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Blue Tandoor Restaurant was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2025. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design accolade that rewards exceptional design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
