Soroban Colette Abacus

Soroban Colette

Previously, the abacus had square corners, but it has been reborn having a gentler design featuring rounded corners so that children can use it without worrying about damaging something with the item. The design does not use screws, nails, or adhesive, making it a safe product for younger children. By having a variety of colors that children like, the options have expanded. Additionally, the number of parts has been reduced by 40%, making manufacturing simpler and more efficient.

Soroban Colette Abacus by Toshihiko Sakai has been featured as a grand example of industrial design by the A' Design Award. Soroban Colette Abacus won the Bronze A' Design Award in Art and Stationery Supplies Design in 2025. The A' Art and Stationery Supplies Design Award is a juried, academic and highly prestigious design accolade that recognizes outstanding design of brushes, paints, sketchbooks, pencils, pastels, easels, canvases, markers and more.
