Ribbon
Ribbon is a street bench designed for public spaces such as city plazas, community squares and promenades. Five common resting postures, tucked-in, deep, straight-up, lean back and lounging, were studied and simplified into profile curves. Smooth transitions between the five curves create a single meandering form. The bench is made of plywood frames, each 35 millimetres wide and spaced 50 millimetres apart, joined by threaded steel rods, nuts and wooden spacers. The slatted structure allows drainage and suits both indoor and outdoor settings.
Ribbon street bench by Di Hu was featured as a grand example of industrial design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Ribbon street bench won the Bronze A' Design Award in Street Furniture Design in 2024. The A' Street and City Furniture Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design prize that celebrates superior design of benches, bollards, bus shelters, bicycle racks, litter bins, planters, signage, lighting fixtures and more.
