Reconnect
Reconnect is a digital art installation about human communication after a period of remote living. The work combines recorded video calls with twelve LCD screens mounted in an aluminium frame with LED strips. A webcam shows the face of the visitor standing in front of the installation on the central screen, while the other screens show people speaking in recorded calls. At first each screen runs a separate call, then all screens gradually form one combined image. The installation was programmed with node based visual software and driven by a single laptop.
Reconnect Digital Installation by Atsushi Kobayashi has been featured as an exceptional example of communication design by the A' Design Awards. Reconnect Digital Installation was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in Fine Arts and Art Installation Design in 2022. The A' Fine Arts and Art Installation Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design award which celebrates outstanding design of sculptures, paintings, installations, photographs, drawings, mixed media works, ceramics, art objects, craftworks and more.
