Blessing from the Sea
Blessing from the Sea is an outdoor art installation placed between the beach and the sea in Pingtung, Taiwan. The work takes the shape of a church and is built from a metal structure, a metal panel base and white fabric strips. When the air is calm, the structure stands quiet. When the seasonal mountain wind blows, the fabric strips move and reveal the force of the wind. The center of the base is cut out, so the work can shift with the tide and avoid being buried in sand. Eight spotlights light the work at night.
Blessing from the Sea Installation Art by Chih-Kang Chu was identified as an innovative illustration of communication design by the A' Design Award. Blessing from the Sea Installation Art won the Bronze A' Design Award in Fine Arts and Art Installation Design in 2022. The A' Fine Arts and Art Installation Design Award is a highly prestigious international design prize which rewards outstanding design of sculptures, paintings, installations, photographs, drawings, mixed media works, ceramics, art objects, craftworks and more.
