Suzhou Creek
Suzhou Creek is a waterfront and campus landscape design in Shanghai. The project covers about 93,600 square meters and includes about 900 meters of riverside frontage beside a university campus. Buildings that weakened the overall style were removed and the riverside area was widened. Steps were replaced by gentle slopes to remove height differences and enlarge the pedestrian space. Historical buildings and mature trees were retained. The former footpath and planting strip became a combined campus landscape, shared space and riverside promenade open to the public.
Suzhou Creek Waterfront and Campus Landscape by Lao Xue was identified as an innovative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Suzhou Creek Waterfront and Campus Landscape won the Bronze A' Design Award in Landscape Planning and Garden Design in 2022. The A' Landscape Planning and Garden Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design recognition program which recognizes superior design of landscape designs, public parks, residential gardens, urban plazas, campus designs, green roofs, waterfront developments, Eco-Parks, botanical gardens and more.
