Hangzhou Haishu
Hangzhou Haishu is a school complex that combines a kindergarten and a primary school. The campus includes teaching buildings, an administration building, a gym and a canteen. All functional spaces are linked in series by corridors and inner courtyards with different degrees of openness. Exposed stairs and dynamically shaped corridors serve both circulation and activity. The design was inspired by a child drawing of an ideal school seen as a small town. The campus of 28000 square metres is divided into 15 small gabled volumes, and each volume grows in scale with the age of the children.
Hangzhou Haishu School by LYCS Architecture has been featured as an outstanding representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Hangzhou Haishu School received the Silver A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2022. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design award which celebrates exceptional design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
