Smell the Flower
Smell the Flower is a set of measuring equipment for pour over coffee, consisting of a scale and a thermometer. The scale is inspired by flower arrangement. Weights shaped as leaves and fruits are placed on a branch, so weighing coffee beans resembles arranging flowers. The thermometer takes the form of a flower, and the petals rotate open as the hot water is measured, with each petal marking ten degrees. Ceramic, copper, aluminum and acrylic are used in the set. The design gives the preparation of pour over coffee a calm and ritual character.
Smell the Flower Coffee Equipment by Forn Woei Koong has been selected as an exceptional illustration of communication design by the A' Design Award. Smell the Flower Coffee Equipment won the Bronze A' Design Award in Fine Arts and Art Installation Design in 2022. The A' Fine Arts and Art Installation Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design competition that rewards outstanding design of sculptures, paintings, installations, photographs, drawings, mixed media works, ceramics, art objects, craftworks and more.
