Minimal Techno Arm Chair

Minimal Techno

Minimal Techno is a prototype armchair made from recycled solid steel and repurposed bamboo hardwood flooring. The frame has a matte black coating, and brushed brass screws hold the bamboo slats in place. The thin steel and bamboo give the seat flexibility, so the chair stays comfortable during long periods of sitting. The structure is strong and has been tested to hold weights above 250 pounds. Japanese minimalism and the use of negative space guided the form. Only three materials are used, which keeps the armchair simple to reproduce.

Minimal Techno Arm Chair by Sebastiaan Van beest was featured as a grand representation of industrial design by the A' Design Awards. Minimal Techno Arm Chair earned the Golden A' Design Award in Furniture Design in 2021. The A' Furniture Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design accolade that rewards exceptional design of chairs, tables, sofas, beds, cabinets, shelves, desks, wardrobes and more.
