Slope House
Slope House is a two-storey residence located on a gentle slope in Wonju city, South Korea. The main design concept is a sloped surface that works as both roof and facade. The roof gives a strong visual impact and recalls the slope of the Kam-Ak mountain near the site. A terrace is carved into the roof and faces the eastern mountain, offering wide views through the year. Zinc panels cover the roof and resist heavy snow, while light gray brick forms the walls. Corten steel joins the two materials. The gross built area is 187 square meters.
Slope House Residence by Kyungsik Kim was selected as an exceptional representation of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. Slope House Residence received the Silver A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2021. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design accolade which honors superior design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
