Paper for Light
Paper for Light is a residential interior designed as a calm space for meditation. The home of 100 square meters applies oriental paper art as its central concept. Six semi-transparent Shoji panels can be moved along a track to control the intensity and softness of natural light and to guide the airflow, which reduces the need for artificial light and air conditioning. A ceiling shaped like folded paper recalls Origami above a horizontal wood floor. Wood, rice paper and diatom mud balance humidity and limit the use of plastic.
Paper for Light Residential House by Ya-Jung HSIEH was selected as a creative representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Paper for Light Residential House earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2021. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design award which honors outstanding design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
