Oscarina
Oscarina is a handmade chair inspired by Brazilian modernist furniture of the 1950s. The design uses only two materials, wood and woven cane, both closely linked to Brazilian craft tradition. Straight lines are combined with hand-turned forms shaped on a lathe. Each part is cut, sanded, turned and glued, then varnished, and the cane is fixed into channels cut in the wood. The name refers to the Cathedral of Brasilia by Oscar Niemeyer, which inspired the lines. The chair measures 525 by 497 by 858 millimeters and suits many interiors.
Oscarina Chair by Linda Martins was featured as an exceptional illustration of industrial design by the A' Design Award. Oscarina Chair won the Bronze A' Design Award in Furniture Design in 2021. The A' Furniture Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design recognition program that honors excellent design of chairs, tables, sofas, beds, cabinets, shelves, desks, wardrobes and more.
