Ryujin
Ryujin is an illustration inspired by the dragon deity of the sea in Japanese mythology. The artwork was made from scratch and follows a minimal approach with a strong focus on detail. The background shows Japanese-inspired waves that reflect the character. The concept was first sketched digitally, then vector linework, shading and color were applied, and final adjustments completed the image. The illustration is printed on posters, greeting cards and shirts. The aim was to convey the power of the character through traditional Japanese imagery combined with a personal style.
Ryujin Illustration by Rom Joseph M. Pamintuan was selected as an innovative example of communication design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Ryujin Illustration won the Silver A' Design Award in Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design in 2021.
