Monolithic House
Monolithic House is a private villa in Jeddah. The building is composed of three main masses that are shifted to create external courts, following the arrangement of traditional Arabic houses. The envelope uses semi-transparent screens with an old Saudi pattern inspired by the Mashrabiya. A motorized openable system regulates sunlight, gives shading and privacy on the south facade, and allows natural ventilation. The structure is concrete, finished with honed travertine stone, black steel, stucco and walnut wood. Separate entrances serve family, guests and services.
Monolithic House Private Villa by Ahmed Habib was highlighted as an innovative example of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. Monolithic House Private Villa earned the Golden A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2021. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design competition that rewards outstanding design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
