Wind Crystals
Wind Crystals is an outdoor art installation built in Budai County, Taiwan. The work recalls the local salt industry through forms based on salt crystals. Mahogany wood is cut at two special angles to create tapered polygonal frames, which are joined into a truss structure that can be extended freely. Only two component types form the whole body, so the parts are prepared in a factory and the on-site assembly time is kept short. The installation covers 24 square meters and turns with the sea breeze, following light and shadow along the coast.
Wind Crystals Installation Art by doT & associates was selected as an innovative example of communication design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Wind Crystals Installation Art was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in Fine Arts and Art Installation Design in 2022. The A' Fine Arts and Art Installation Design Award is a highly prestigious international design recognition program which recognizes outstanding design of sculptures, paintings, installations, photographs, drawings, mixed media works, ceramics, art objects, craftworks and more.
