Light Field
Light Field is a residential interior design for a sixty-year-old townhouse in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The two-story building with a mezzanine covers about 115.7 square meters. The original structure is retained, while worn surfaces are removed and walls are reinforced with steel and post-made exposed concrete. Closed barriers are opened so that sunlight and natural wind enter the rooms. A staircase lined in black connects the floors and forms the main vertical link. Materials include hexagonal tile, glass, wood grain brick, washed pebble and solid wood steps.
Light Field Residence by Huang Kai Ling was selected as a creative representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award. Light Field Residence received the Iron A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2021. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is a juried, academic and highly prestigious design award which recognizes outstanding design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
