Gem of the World Costume Design

Gem of the World

Gem of the World is a carnival costume inspired by the Cayman Islands. The white color recalls the powder white sand and the clear water of the three islands. The wing shape refers to the millions of tourists who fly to the Caribbean each year. The costume is handmade from fabrics such as spandex and lace, with sequins and feathers as embellishments. The sculpted parts are framed with metal wire and bonded with a special technique. The costume was created on Seven Mile Beach, with a direct view of the ocean, to highlight the natural beauty and the marine environment of the islands.

Gem of the World Costume Design by Reba Dilbert has been selected as a creative illustration of communication design by the A' Design Award. Gem of the World Costume Design won the Silver A' Design Award in Performing Arts, Stage, Style and Scenery Design in 2021. The A' Performing Arts, Stage, Style and Scenery Design Award is a highly prestigious international design competition that rewards excellent design of choreography, dance moves, theatrical sets, dance costumes, stage lighting, opera props, concert stages, ballet scenery, puppetry designs, performance installations and more.
