Codice
Codice is a packaging design for a wine bottle, inspired by medieval codices. Codices were handwritten books made before the invention of the printing press, in which the capital letters became works of art. The label is produced on paper with reliefs and stamping and is applied to a Bordeaux bottle. A sheet of sealed vegetal paper wraps the bottle and carries illustrations of the symbols of the winery. The paper is closed with sealing wax at the top, so the content is revealed only when the wrapper is opened.
Codice Wine Bottle by Estudio Maba was featured as a creative example of communication design by the A' Design Award. Codice Wine Bottle was awarded the Golden A' Design Award in Packaging Design in 2020. The A' Packaging Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design competition that rewards exceptional design of bottles, boxes, cans, pouches, tubes, cartons, wrappers, bags and more.
