Coral
Coral is a handmade teapot inspired by the intricate forms and textures of sea corals. The single handle allows the teapot to be held from all directions, overhead, from the left or from the right, reflecting the many ways different cultures handle a teapot. An indent at the back of the body allows the teapot to be pinched and lifted. The design of the lid is integrated into the handle, so the lines flow around the whole form. Coral is made of coil-constructed, altered, carved and textured earthenware, finished with shino glaze and fired in oxidation.
Coral Teapot by Swee Tuan Pang has been selected as an exceptional illustration of communication design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Coral Teapot was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in Fine Arts and Art Installation Design in 2020. The A' Fine Arts and Art Installation Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design prize which recognizes outstanding design of sculptures, paintings, installations, photographs, drawings, mixed media works, ceramics, art objects, craftworks and more.
