Xie Yan
Xie Yan is a restaurant interior created for Japanese crab cuisine. The 450 square meter layout is arranged in the shape of a crab. A slightly raised platform forms the shell, and the robatayaki bar is set into it. Two booth seating areas form the eyes, while hexagonal floor tiles at the entrance form the claws. Acrylic sheets in light pink, white and colorless tones hang from the ceiling as fine triangles, suggesting cherry blossoms and outlining a second crab above the floor. A tatami dining area with printed screens offers semi open and private seating.
Xie Yan Restaurant by Yuchi Zhang has been selected as a grand illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Xie Yan Restaurant won the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2020. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design competition that celebrates outstanding design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
